Snell knot

Ties straight onto the shank, not the eye: the pull stays in line with the hook and drives the point home.

Tying it

   Step 1: Pass the line through the eye and run it along the shank.

   Step 2: Form a loop against the shank and wrap it six to eight times.

3. 3

   Step 3: Hold the turns and pull on the standing line to close them.

4. 4

   Step 4: Wet, tighten against the eye and trim.

Always wet a knot before tightening it: dry friction burns the line and costs a good part of its strength.
